Janet Taylor Pickett was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in 1970 and Masters of Fine Arts from The University of Michigan School of Architecture and Design in 1972. She also studied at Parsons School of Design, FIT, and The Vermont Studio School and taught as a Professor of Art at Essex County College for 31 years and Bloomfield College for 10 years in New Jersey.  Recipient of numerous grants and fellowships among from The New Jersey Council of the Arts Grant, The Ford Foundation, Mid-Atlantic States Arts Council and residencies at  Vermont Studio School, Pilchuck Glass School, Valparaiso Foundation (Mojaca, Spain), University of Eastern New Mexico, Visiting Artist Lecture Series; Visiting Artist University of Wisconsin; Visiting Artist University of Costa Rica, Limon Costa Rica (sponsorship US State Department and Lafayette College, she was featured in extensive solo and group exhibitions. Including recent museum exhibitions: Janet Taylor Pickett, The Matisse Series, concurrent with The Montclair Art Museum exhibition of Matisse and The Americans, October 2016-July 2017; African American Women Artists, and the Power of Their Gaze, The David Driskell Center Study of Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and The African Diaspora, The University of Maryland, MD, March 2017-May 2017; Oceanside Museum of Art – Dress Rehearsal Oct. 2019-Jan. 2020; Riffs and Relations: African American Artists and The European Modernist Tradition – The Phillips Collection February 2020-Jan 2021, Washington, DC.  Janet Taylor Pickett is represented by Baahng Gallery.
